LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- The ‘Youth Sports Injury Prevention Task Force’ for Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County is a community group that has come together to address the most common types of sports injuries.

Mark Stutz is co-chair of this task force, and says there are a number of heat-related illness prevention tips:

  • Drink plenty of fluids 30 minutes before activity begins, and every 15-20 minutes during activity
  • Know the signs and symptoms of dehydration such as muscle cramping, dizziness, nausea and rapid heartbeat
  • Respond immediately and appropriately; move the the athlete to the shade and cool the body down
